Services for the Elders
Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians Elder’s Program Department offers a variety of assistance for Chukchansi elders that are 55 and up. Such as meals on wheels, transportation for doctor appointments, Sacred Senior Circle, expeditions, free medical insurance, home visits and caregiver assistances. The department promotes home and community-based care for older adults to have a healthy, safe environment and an active social engagement with the tribal community. The overall goals and objectives of the Elder Program Department is to be alert to changes in senior’s health, attitude, and general well-being to make sure the elders are being taken care of in the best way possible.
Hot Meal Program
The Title VI A.O.A. Program helps provide a free well balanced hot meal to an enrolled home bound member, age 55 or older, or any Federally recognized tribal member living with enrolled elder within the program service area (Coarsegold, Oakhurst, Ahwahnee, Mariposa and Bass Lake). Eligibility will also include a native spouse, handicapped or disabled family members living in the same household as the Eligible Participant, if you would like more information or have any questions, please feel free to contact Elder’s Program Department.
Nutrition & Utility Assistance Program
The Elder’s Nutrition and Utility Assistance Program is a way to ensure that our elders can buy groceries when needed and still have ample money to spend on healthy food choices, also this program is to be used on the following: electricity, propane, gas, wood, water, sewer, septic, garbage and/or telephone. This program does not condone the purchase of Alcohol or Tobacco products.
Arts & Crafts Program
The Arts & Crafts Program is a part of our Congregate Meal service which is held on Wednesdays and Fridays located at the Grandmother’s Club. This program will continue as soon as the Tribal Office is up and running again.
Sacred Senior Circle
The purpose of Sacred Senior Circle is for all elders to have the opportunity to gather and share good uplifting medicine and bring positivity and peace. The group will be held every Thursday of the month from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm located in Butler Building (library room) with exceptions to holidays and scheduled conferences. Each Thursday there will be a different theme for example but not limited to, craft project’s, a health awareness day.
